If you're planning a trip to Seville and want somewhere that combines the character of a historic building with the comfort of a Marriott hotel, AC Hotel Ciudad de Sevilla is one to put on your list.
My husband and I stayed here in August 2024, and we ended up getting a pretty incredible surprise at check-in — we were upgraded to one of the hotel's suites!
And when I say suite, I don't mean a slightly larger hotel room.
Our suite had a full living room downstairs and a three-tiered balcony, which made the room feel more like our own little apartment in Seville.
So, rather than giving you a generic hotel overview, I wanted to share what our stay was actually like, what I loved about the hotel, our room upgrade, the location, the rooftop pool and terrace, and a few things I think you should know before booking.

AC Hotel Ciudad de Sevilla is located in a residential area of Seville near Avenida de la Palmera.
It's not directly in the middle of the historic center, and I actually think that's worth knowing before you book.
You're close to attractions including Plaza de España, María Luisa Park and the Puente de las Delicias, while still being outside the busiest tourist area. The hotel is also well connected by public transportation, and taxis/Uber making getting to the center relatively easy.
For us, I liked being able to come back to a quieter hotel after spending the day exploring Seville.
And let's be honest, after walking around Seville in August, having somewhere quiet and comfortable to escape back to was very welcome!
Our Suite Upgrade
Okay, now for the part I was very excited about.
When we checked into the hotel, we were upgraded to a suite! (First time this has ever happened to me!)
And this wasn't just a slightly bigger room.
Our suite had a full living room downstairs, giving us a completely separate space to sit and relax.
Then there was the balcony.
Or should I say... balconies?
Our room had a three-tiered balcony, which was definitely one of the most memorable features of the stay.
Having multiple levels of outdoor space made the suite feel incredibly unique, and it gave us somewhere to sit and enjoy the warm Seville evenings without having to leave the hotel.
It was one of those hotel upgrades that makes you immediately think:
"Okay, this is going to be a good stay."
The hotel currently lists its suites as including separate living space, and its King Suite category includes a terrace. The Junior Suites are approximately 41 square meters and also feature a separate living room.
If you're celebrating something special or simply want more space during your stay, I would definitely look at the suite categories!
And if you're a Marriott Bonvoy member with status, it may also be worth asking about an upgrade at check-in! Of course, upgrades are never guaranteed.
The Hotel & Its Character
One of the things I really liked about AC Hotel Ciudad de Sevilla was that it didn't feel like a generic modern hotel dropped into the middle of Spain.
The building has a lot of character, while the hotel itself incorporates modern AC Hotels design. I believe it used to be an old bank that was renovated!
The property has 86 rooms, along with the AC Lounge, fitness room, outdoor pool, and terrace.
The hotel has also undergone renovations, including redesigned guestrooms and a completely renovated AC Lounge. Marriott currently describes the hotel as freshly renovated, with 24 rooms receiving redesigned spaces as part of the renovation (Aug 25, 2026).
That said, if you're reading older reviews before booking, you may notice some complaints about the condition of certain rooms and public areas. This is important because some reviews from around the time of our 2024 stay mention renovation work, while the hotel has since continued updating parts of the property.
So if you're comparing reviews, pay attention to the date of the review!
The Rooftop Pool & Terrace
After spending a day exploring Seville, one of my favourite things about the hotel was having somewhere to cool down.
The hotel has an outdoor rooftop pool and a large terrace area.
The terrace is approximately 200 square meters and is designed as a space where guests can relax, enjoy a drink, or grab something to eat.
And in Seville during the summer?
A pool is a very good thing to have. I don’t think I have ever been somewhere so hot before!
The pool is open seasonally, generally from spring through early autumn, so if you're visiting during the hotter months, I would definitely take advantage of it.
Dining at AC Hotel Ciudad de Sevilla
The hotel has the AC Lounge, which offers Mediterranean-inspired food ranging from lighter snacks to more substantial dishes.
The hotel also offers breakfast, and you can enjoy drinks and food on the terrace.
However, one of my biggest recommendations when staying in Seville is:
Don't plan to eat every meal at your hotel.
One of the best things about visiting Seville is getting out and eating your way through the city.
Tapas bars, local restaurants, Spanish wine, jamón, croquettes, tortilla...
There are so many good options to discover.
The hotel's location is actually useful for this because you're outside the most tourist-heavy part of the city, with local restaurants and easy transportation into the historic center.
Exploring Seville
This hotel is a good home base if you're planning to spend most of your time exploring Seville.
Some of the places you'll want to have on your list include:
And please don't make the mistake of thinking you need to spend your entire trip sitting at the hotel.
Seville is the attraction.
The hotel gives you a comfortable place to come back to after spending the day wandering through the city.
What I Loved About Our Stay
There are a few things that really stood out to me.
The upgrade
Obviously. Getting upgraded to a suite with a separate living room and that incredible three-tiered balcony was such a fun surprise! We almost wish we had more time at the hotel!
The location
I liked being outside the busiest part of the city while still being close enough to get to the major attractions. We still walked to many places, the temperature at night was so nice!
The rooftop pool
August in Seville is HOT. Having a pool to cool down in after sightseeing was a huge bonus.
The character
I loved that the hotel had some personality instead of feeling like a completely interchangeable city hotel.
The Marriott connection
If you're a Marriott Bonvoy member, this is another reason to consider the property.
Being able to earn or redeem Marriott Bonvoy points while staying in Seville can make this a particularly appealing option for Marriott loyalists.
A Few Things to Know Before Booking
No hotel is perfect, so here are a few things I'd want you to know before booking.
It's not in the historic centre
You're not walking straight out of the hotel into Seville's most famous attractions.
That's not necessarily a bad thing, but if you want to be able to step outside and immediately be surrounded by tapas bars, shops, and historic buildings, I'd look at a hotel in the old town instead.
The hotel has had renovations
This is actually a positive for future travellers, but it's worth knowing if you're reading older reviews.
The hotel has renovated rooms and the AC Lounge, and Marriott currently describes the property as freshly renovated.
Don't expect a huge resort pool
The rooftop pool is a lovely bonus, particularly in the summer, but this is a city hotel, not a beach resort.
The pool is designed for relaxing and cooling off rather than spending an entire day swimming.
Summer in Seville is HOT
We visited in August, and I cannot emphasize this enough.
Bring sunscreen. Drink water. Take breaks.
And yes, book the hotel with the pool.
You will thank me later.
Who Would I Recommend AC Hotel Ciudad de Sevilla To?
After staying here myself, I would particularly recommend it for:
Couples
City breaks
First-time visitors to Seville
Summer travellers who want access to a pool
Travellers who prefer a quieter location
Anyone who wants more space than a standard hotel room
People celebrating a special occasion who want to splurge on a suite
If you're looking for a large resort with tons of amenities, this isn't it.
But if you're looking for a comfortable base for exploring Seville, with a rooftop pool, terrace, Marriott Bonvoy benefits and the possibility of a really fun suite upgrade, it's worth considering.
My Final Thoughts
Our stay at AC Hotel Ciudad de Sevilla was one of those hotel experiences where the upgrade made the trip even more memorable.
We went in expecting a comfortable Marriott city hotel.
Instead, we ended up with a suite with a full living room and a three-tiered balcony and suddenly we had a whole lot more room to relax after exploring Seville.
We were close enough to explore everything we wanted to see while still having a quieter place to come back to at the end of the day.
Would I stay here again?
Absolutely.
Especially if I could get that suite upgrade again!
If you're planning a trip to Seville and want a hotel that gives you a little more space, a pool to escape the summer heat, and the reliability of the Marriott brand, AC Hotel Ciudad de Sevilla is definitely one I'd consider!
