When planning a trip to Bali, it's easy to get caught up looking at gorgeous luxury resorts with private pools, jungle villas and over-the-top amenities.
But here's the thing: you don't necessarily need a luxury hotel to have a great Bali vacation.
Sometimes you want somewhere comfortable, clean, convenient and affordable; especially when you know you'll be spending most of your time out exploring.
That's where Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road comes in.
This isn't a luxury resort, and I wouldn't try to sell it as one. Instead, Fairfield offers a comfortable Marriott stay with a great pool area, daily breakfast included with your booking, friendly staff, live entertainment, and a convenient location for exploring the Kuta area.
And if you're a Marriott Bonvoy member, there's another bonus: you can earn Marriott Bonvoy points on eligible stays.
First Impressions
Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road has a much more casual feel than some of Bali's luxury properties.
The atmosphere is relaxed, the property is modern and comfortable, and the staff were one of the things that really stood out to us.
The staff were amazing.
Everyone we interacted with was friendly, welcoming, and happy to help, and that kind of service can make such a difference particularly when you're arriving after a long international journey.
The hotel has a nice balance of being practical and comfortable without trying to be something it isn't.
And honestly? Sometimes that's exactly what you need.
Value at Fairfield Kuta: Is It Worth It?
If you're travelling to Bali and don't want to spend a huge portion of your vacation budget on your hotel, Fairfield is worth considering.
You're getting the familiarity of a Marriott-branded hotel, along with a pool, restaurant options, fitness centre, spa, Wi-Fi and comfortable rooms without stepping into luxury-resort pricing.
For travellers who plan to spend their days exploring Bali, taking tours, visiting temples, enjoying the beaches and experiencing the local food, I think this type of hotel can make a lot of sense.
Why spend your entire vacation budget on a hotel room when you could put some of that money toward the experiences you'll remember?
Breakfast Is Included With Your Stay
One of the things I really appreciated about our stay was thebuffet breakfast included with our booking.
There was something so nice about being able to wake up, head downstairs and have a full breakfast before starting the day.
The buffet at Jejaton Restaurant includes a selection of Indonesian and Western options, with the restaurant focusing heavily on the flavours and culinary traditions of the Indonesian archipelago.
For us, having breakfast included was a huge convenience — especially on mornings when we had a busy day of sightseeing ahead.
Just be sure to check the rate you're booking, as breakfast inclusions can vary. Marriott's current website has also been promoting specific "Breakfast on Us" offers, rather than indicating that every rate universally includes breakfast.
With my husband at JABA Lobby Lounge dining & listening to the live music!
Another thing I really enjoyed was the live entertainment at the hotel.
It's such a simple addition, but having live music or entertainment in the evening gives the property a little more atmosphere.
After spending the day exploring Bali, it was nice to be able to come back to the hotel and still have something happening rather than simply heading straight to your room.
It's another example of why I think Fairfield offers more than you'd necessarily expect from a value-focused hotel.
The Pool Area
The pool was another highlight of the property.
Fairfield has a large outdoor swimming pool with a pool bar, giving guests somewhere to relax when they want a break from sightseeing.
And I think this is one of the reasons Fairfield works so well for a Bali trip.
You can spend your morning exploring, come back in the afternoon, grab a drink and cool off in the pool, then head back out for dinner or evening entertainment.
The property also has a whirlpool, adding another option for relaxing. Marriott currently lists both the outdoor pool and whirlpool among the hotel's amenities.
Dining at Fairfield
There are several options for food and drinks at the hotel.
Jejaton Restaurant
Jejaton Restaurant is the hotel's main restaurant and focuses on Indonesian cuisine alongside other options.
If you're staying at Fairfield Sunset Road, this is where you'll find breakfast, and it's also an option for lunch and dinner.
JABA Lobby Lounge
JABA Lobby Lounge is a more relaxed space for evening drinks and light bites.
It also has comfortable seating, a games area and high-speed Wi-Fi, making it a nice place to unwind without needing to leave the hotel.
Pool Bar
And, of course, there's the pool bar.
Because what's a pool day in Bali without being able to grab a drink and a snack without leaving the pool area?
Marriott currently lists three restaurant/dining outlets at the property, including Jejaton Restaurant, JABA Lobby Lounge and the Pool Bar.
The Gym
If you like to stay active while travelling, Fairfield also has a 24-hour fitness centre.
It's not the massive gym you might find at a full-scale luxury resort, but it's a useful amenity for anyone wanting to squeeze in a workout between exploring and relaxing.
Having a 24-hour gym is particularly convenient when you're dealing with jet lag or an early-morning excursion.
Alaya Spa
Yes, there is also a spa!
Alaya Spa offers massage and spa treatments, so you can enjoy a little relaxation without having to leave the property.
And let's be honest; Bali is one of those places where scheduling a massage should practically be part of the itinerary.
After a full day of walking, sightseeing and exploring, a Balinese massage sounds pretty perfect to me!
The Location: Kuta Sunset Road
The hotel's location on Sunset Road gives you a convenient base for exploring Kuta and the surrounding areas.
You're not directly on the beach, so this isn't the hotel I'd recommend if your number-one priority is walking straight from your room onto the sand.
Instead, you're positioned to explore a variety of attractions around Kuta, Legian and Seminyak.
And one of the biggest advantages?
The airport is close.
Ngurah Rai International Airportat approximately 6.6 km from the hotel, and the property offers an airport shuttle with advance reservation.
That makes Fairfield a particularly convenient option for:
Your first or last night in Bali
A Kuta-based vacation
Travellers who plan to explore rather than stay at the hotel all day
Budget-conscious travellers
Families looking for a practical hotel
Travellers who appreciate a recognizable hotel brand
Marriott Bonvoy members
Accessibility
Another thing worth mentioning is that Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road has elevators and a number of accessibility features.
Marriott lists accessible routes from the main entrance, an accessible pool entrance, accessible fitness centre and spa entrances, accessible restaurants and meeting spaces, as well as mobility-accessible rooms and roll-in showers.
This is something I really appreciate seeing in a hotel review because accessibility information can be difficult to find when researching Bali accommodations.
Of course, if you have specific mobility or accessibility requirements, I always recommend confirming your individual needs with the hotel before booking.
Marriott Bonvoy Members: You Can Earn Points!
If you're already a Marriott Bonvoy member, Fairfield has another advantage.
As a Marriott property, eligible stays can earn Marriott Bonvoy points and elite-night credits, depending on the rate and booking method.
This is something I always like to consider when choosing hotels.
If you're going to stay somewhere anyway, why not earn points toward your next trip?
Marriott Bonvoy members can also receive complimentary Wi-Fi when booking eligible rates directly, according to Marriott.
Things to Do Near Fairfield
There is plenty to keep you busy around Kuta.
Kuta Beach
Kuta Beach is approximately 2.5 km from the hotel, making it easy to head over for some beach time, surfing or one of Bali's famous sunsets.
Double Six Beach
If you're looking for another beautiful beach and sunset spot, Double Six Beach is also nearby.
This is a great option for combining beach time with the atmosphere of the Seminyak area.
Waterbom Bali
Travelling with kids or simply love a good waterpark?
Waterbom Bali is approximately 2.8 km away and is one of the area's biggest attractions.
This would be an especially fun addition to a family Bali itinerary.
Beachwalk Shopping Center
Beachwalk Shopping Center is another nearby option if you're looking for shopping, restaurants and somewhere to escape the heat for a while.
Trans Studio Bali
Trans Studio Bali is an indoor entertainment and theme-park option located approximately 1.8 km from the hotel.
Bali Tours & Activities Near Fairfield Kuta
One of my biggest recommendations when visiting Bali is not to spend your entire trip sitting at the hotel.
Bali is an incredible destination for experiences.
Depending on your interests, you could book:
Temple visits
Balinese cooking classes
Surf lessons
Sunset tours
Day trips
Spa experiences
Private drivers and customized sightseeing days

Staying Connected in Bali
Before heading to Bali, I'd also recommend getting your phone sorted out before you leave.
An Airalo eSIM can be an easy way to have mobile data ready when you arrive, which is incredibly helpful for using maps, arranging transportation, contacting hotels and looking up tour information.
Get your Bali eSIM before you travel.
It's one of those little travel preparations that can make your trip so much easier.
Who Is Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road Best For?
I think this hotel is best suited to travellers who are looking for value and convenience rather than luxury.
I'd consider it for:
Couples on a budget
Families
First-time visitors to Bali
Travellers who want a Marriott property
Marriott Bonvoy members
Travellers who plan to spend most days exploring
Short stays before or after a flight
Travellers who want breakfast included with their rate
People who want a pool without paying luxury-resort prices
Travellers who appreciate friendly service
I wouldn't choose Fairfield if your dream Bali vacation involves a private pool villa, direct beach access or an ultra-luxury resort experience.
But if you want somewhere comfortable, convenient and well-priced, I think it's a very different story.
My Take on Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road
Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road isn't trying to be the most luxurious hotel in Bali and that's okay.
For us, what stood out was the combination of value, location and genuinely wonderful staff.
Having breakfast included with our stay was a great bonus, the pool was a lovely place to relax, the live entertainment added some atmosphere in the evenings, and having a spa and fitness centre on-site meant there were plenty of amenities available when we weren't out exploring.
And being part of Marriott is another big plus for anyone who collects Bonvoy points.
If you're looking at Bali and thinking, "I'd rather spend my money exploring the island than on a luxury hotel room," Fairfield by Marriott Bali Kuta Sunset Road is definitely worth considering.
Sometimes you don't need a five-star resort.
You just need a really good place to come home to after an amazing day in Bali.
